Was about to go to store to get one of those pole light changers, but decided to look on RUclips. I am glad I did. Your idea worked beautifully. For the long handle I used a broom handle I got from the dollar store, and I always have plastic drink bottles around. Took me 5 minutes to change the bulb. Thank you.

Unfortunately doesnt help me, the one I'm trying to figure out how to change for my grandma is a chandelier victorian style that uses flame tip bulbs under glass, Its on the 3rd story stairwell ceiling too :/

Brilliant indeed, I just tried, was ready for success, but alas the water bottle was too wide to grip skinny CFL. A little tape will fix that though :) Thanks!

For flood light, I did it with an empty 500ml yogurt container, just cut the top edge off to get a proper size and duct taped it on to a stick or a crutch. Worked like a charm.

I haven't tried this but I have a hard time picturing how you would screw in the bulb until it's tight. The bottle doesn't provide grip (or does it?).
