Fall Foliage Excursion on the Reading and Northern featuring steam locomotive R&N 2102.
Filmed on 10/19/2024. Reading and Northern 2102 takes a fall foliage excursion train from Reading Outer Station, through the autumnal hills and valleys of eastern Pennsylvania, to the scenic town of Jim Thorpe and back. Watch as the coal-fired steam locomotive roars up steep grades with its 17-car train behind, with no diesel helpers in sight.

In the early fifties the kid's would take a field trip to Horseshoe curve board the train at Clairton station then steam to Altoona. Had no Diesel's yet they could not make the grade.

You know that same engine's produced a whole lot. Just an amazing amount of torque and horsepower or steam engine. People like to say mode of traction power. I think that's what they call it anyway. It's doing a hell of a job cuz I mean it's spinning. What is it like? Eight wheels? Just amazing amazing piece of equipment
