Mappleton East Yorkshire, a comparrison video : 10th September 2024 #erosion
Coastal erosion is very easy to see when checking Google Earth, with it's out-dated images.
The street view is apparently from September 2011.

In order to be able to see the changes physically, I must get plenty of footage to compare at a later date. So far, I haven't filmed in really wild conditions or seen the effects first-hand. That is my purpose.

Click on that and along the bottom of the screen will be all the dates available. You can click on them to see the street view

    Some of the lost 30 or more lost villages on the Holderness Coast include: Ravenser Odd: A medieval port that was once a major trading center. Ravenspurn: Another important port town mentioned in Shakespeare's Richard II. Owthorne: A village that was completely washed away in 1816. Hartburn: A village that was deserted due to coastal erosion in the 15th century. Hornsea Beck: A village that was lost by 1747. Out Newton: A village that was swallowed by the sea in the 14th century. Dimlington: Another village that was lost to the sea in the 14th century.

    Davey, those are likely transmission lines getting the power from the wind turbines on the coast to the market, I assume. Great shots. Transmission lines are not insulated due to the enormous heat given off, allowing for air cooling. This is also why they are not buried underground. The bare cables are highly susceptible to damage. I was on a project where a crane was working very near to high lines and the power company de-energized them. They placed blankets over the lines, also. I asked the power company foreman why they blanketed them if they were de-energized and he said, 'The blankets are there so the crane operator can judge where they are and protect the cables from scarring should contact be made. Coming in contact with them can cause damage. It can create 'hot spots' of corrosion and resistance in the cables.' EDIT: Lines with that much power can arc to a grounded object from 15 feet or more (Timmy isn't grounded).

    @danlowe8684 4 дня назад

    Wonderful video Davey!! Looked like classic British Open weather!! If you look at 7:32, it demonstrates how most erosion occurs from the top down and not the intuitive bottom up. All of the runoff from rain, drain tile, paved surfaces, rooftops, rodents, etc., are constantly making fissures from the top down (much like the surface melt on glaciers creates crevasses but on a smaller scale). This weakens the soil and sets it up as easy prey for the waves and gravity to finish off. As Pete Townshend once sang, 'The sea refuses no river.' The fissures created are simply millions of miniature rivers making their way to the sea. Then, where the debris is scattered, it appears to have improved the erosion directly behind the debris fields, but the erosion above is still occurring. So, during milder periods, this may slow erosion in those spots by a noticeable amount. But when the nasty storm year arrives it has a much weaker structure to attack due to the extra time that was bought by the debris fields. The years of apparent gains can be washed away in one event. Also, notice the massive amount of turbulence caused around the structures. This prevents any deposition of sand material and scours away material in the entire area. The waves are working away at the bottom of these objects and creating unseen pathways that will saturate the bottom of the cliffs even though it appears the water is falling short of the cliff face. This is much like scour that occurs under and around bridge pier in flooded rivers. The piers are designed to create minimal turbulence even at high river flow rates. It's when trees, docks, and other debris collect on the pier that turbulence is introduced and scouring increases dramatically around and under the pier. So, this leaves a steep face of deposited larger aggregates for the waves around the debris to crash into instead breaking naturally. The result is more turbulence; thus, it keeps the erosion cycle going. It would be interesting to see what's going on under and around the debris areas. Thanks for this video!!!

Great slow motion footage of the more dramatic waves crashing against the cliffs, it was like natures version of the matrix 😎.
