No experience? 😂😂😂😂 yeah right
Haha beyond the ol RUclips academy. It was the first alpine climb for all of us.
@@TrevorVio i was about to say, no experience but you guys got climbing gear? Haha epic man.
Great Video. It always sucks making the decision to abandon a summit, BUT it is the right decision when you can't do it safely due to weather, light, your own skill/comfort, or other objective hazards. Your attitude about this adventure is precisely what it should be. You got to spend time up high in the wilderness, in a beautiful place with your buddies. Everyone walked away and you can always take another shot at it in the future. I've abandoned summits and come back to summit later. Exercise good judgment and you'll still be climbing well into your 50s and 60s. Good on ya! Cheers.
Good job guys !! ❤
Desert towers 👀👀
I'm glad that you had a good attitude about it, and appreciated the experience that you had. I lead that route about 40 years ago, with a guy that I met in the Jenny Lake campground the day before! We also got stuck for hours behind a large and slow group of beginners, but at the first rappel point coming down off of the summit, and they would not even let us set up and rappel next to them. My girlfriend at the time had been waiting all day at the Upper Saddle because of altitude sickness, and got badly sunburned. She had been wondering what the hell had happened to us. We got back to camp at the Lower Saddle long after dark, and could barely find the tent.
Next hire Exum Guides. They will spend a day with you nailing down your technical skills. You will spend an extra 24 hours at altitude so you won't face issues up high. You can sleep in their cabin so you won't have do carry so much heavy gear. They will nail down logistics so you will leave MUCH earlier on summit day and if you encounter crowds (which you shouldn't if you start early and Exum will alleviate issues with route finding in the dark for you) they will have plan B options on routes to avoid 2.5 hour bottlenecks. If you learn the ropes from experts, next time you and your friends want to try it without guiding help, you will feel far more confident and make much better decisions that optimize your chances of summitting.
I truly loved your video. You were much more prepared and more responsible than I was back in the day. In 1977 I graduated from high school, my girl friend and best friend went on an epic adventure across the country. We drove from Massachusetts all over the west for an entire summer. The last thing we did before hitting the road was pick up a quarter pound of pot and off we went. Since it was 1977 our packs weighed over 50 pounds each. We never made to the top either because of poor weather but to be honest that was a blessing. We had literally no mountaineering experience and almost no backpacking experience either. The altitude kicked our asses. I can remember having sex with girlfriend on the climb up to the lower saddle in the middle of the day. We met some really chill people and had a great time at night hanging with them and smoking weed. Yeah we all had substance abuse issues back then. I returned two more times and had some great climbs. Exum Ridge and others I don’t remember. We spent five days up there once. I lost my climbing shoes on the last belay ledge. I am sure you learned a lot and if you ever return I am sure things will go better. I must add we had no issues with crowds back in the day. Take care and thanks for sharing your adventure.
@@mtadams2009 what a story! Those are some amazing memories, thank you so much for sharing.
I have two questions. First is your bed above the driver and passenger seat of the van. Second what rear view mirror do you have. I have a 95 econoline that I’m currently working on and needing ideas. Thank you.
@@thejosborne the bed is across the whole cab, passenger and driver. Theres a few vans that were designed like this - Islander RV, Airstream B190, Odessey's, etc. I bought the mirror on Amazon, was called VanTop, but its no longer sold. You can find a ton of similar ones though, made to resemble the original mirror.
@@TrevorVio thank you for the info my friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the video.

Nice.
Sometimes it just works out that it's best to turn back. I enjoyed the video.
Once you get above the tree line, it's still so far lol
What a great shot at 14:45, print worthy!(I may have stolen it as my screen saver, just sayin'...)
good video...never done it in winter with snow shoes its on the list just have to figure out the best route
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. subd & Like 👍17
This is sick man I wanna start doing it with my friend
Do it! Start small and work your way up. This one in particular is actually pretty beginner friendly in the summer time.

I'm going to watch this one. I wanted to watch the one with ''bad weather'' title but I put it off for too long and you deleted it :< are you going to upload it again?
So funny story, i accidentally deleted the original vid from a week ago and my backup file got corrupted. Super unfortunate series of events, but I went and recreated it from the raw footage. Basically the exact same video as before!
@@TrevorVio during watching I figured it might be the case but wasn't sure! Thanks, nice video. I dont have much in mounaineerig, yet, I would probably be afraid about avalanches or losing track where to go in that kind of weather. Cool you were with friends, probably safer than alone in that case. Views were amazing during descent :D
Great video
Did you have a favorite?
Pictured Rocks for sure! So unique.
My first time up the Grand we climbed full Exum. I did OS the second time No ropes. You guys did great. Wish could have went with you.
Amazing!! You have the perfect perspective…what a feat to do what you did!!
Fun to watch…3 thoughts: great tunes along the way, picklejuice for cramps, and “cheese curds” ALL the way!!
I was cracking up…great job! About 8 years ago we stayed in that haunted hotel and DEF heard noise (clanking) all night. I don’t believe in ghosts but that had me reconsidering!
Love the drone and great editing.
Incredible footage!;great editing
Love Jerome!
We enjoy the whole area up there.😀👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Jerome has a vibe similar to Bisbee
Definitely want to check out Bisbee soon
Yes do👍🏼
The only thing I don’t like about trying to enjoy nature in public places-like national and state parks-is that there’s other people there.
Awesome video! I've been by a different shoe tree before in nevada. I wonder how many shoe trees are out there!

Must've been the ghosts.
LOL!! i love Nicole haha "the pioneers used to ride these babies for miles" iykyk... Love the video! looks like so much fun out there! and just so beautiful.
Great video!! Sucha beautiful place and great road trip and camera work. Do you know if there are many trailer parks around where you road tripped? did you see any?
Not many trailer parks that we saw, but there was tons of free camping closer to Salton City. There is also a large community dedicated to off grid living located in Slab City.
Fractured my femur in a ski mountaineering accident on Memorial Day and summited the Grand Teton 11 weeks later with a titanium hip, before my first surgery follow-up (that way my doctor couldn’t tell me no). Definitely made for a tough climb but it was an incredible experience. August storm on the way down added extra spice. The Tetons are amazing.
what a sick video! wish there was an ad at the beginning though.

I tried to summit The Grand in July 2016. While we were camped on the saddle there was an accident and one of the Exum guides died. The summit was closed and we could only go up to The Enclosure which is west of the Upper Saddle. It's hard to make it that far and not get to summit, but that's all part of mountain climbing. It just gives you a reason to go back. I hope you get to summit it someday.
Thanks for sharing. Its always a disappointment, but the dangers are very real as proven by your experience. Sometimes better to be safe than summit.
Who put the cables there?
The park service put them there initially, and they leave them up year round. They only remove the metal supports and the wooden planks
Ohhh, I can't wait to drink water and lay down 😂 Summed up nicely
