Exactly! The best hitting coach I’ve ever had would have me try out tons of stuff. If it wasn’t working, I stopped doing it. No ego. It was what drills I needed to swing better. The worst coaches would tell everyone the exact same thing and tell them to just keep doing it until it clicked. Surprise, it never clicked because it wasn’t a good drill.

My 12U team: catchers called pitches, we didn't bunt, I never adjusted my infield, but would ask guys "why were you playing there?" after the fact. Never moved my outfielders, but would just say "Wake up" if I thought they were out of position. We didn't win a ton, but the kids learned the game, and that was my goal. My catcher called a 3-2 changeup in a big spot and walked in a run, I talked to him. He learned. 3 years later they're all playing (for other people) and they all have a good baseball IQ. Too much coach meddling leads to mentally lazy ballplayers, and you can't be exceptional if you're mentally lazy.

The thing that you havent understood is that mechanics is not what makes a pitcher throw hard. If it was mechanics then girls would be able to throw just as hard as men. But they cant because is not mechanics what make you throw hard. Dont think that just because you make someone throw like him is all of the sudden going to throw 100mph. Its not like that. Ypu really dont have any idea why he throws hard nor do you know how to make someone throw like him. When you work with 15-20 year olds theyre going to increase velocity weight and everything no matter how bad or good they train. If you really know if you are good at increasing velocity grab a bunch of 30 year olds that have never thrown 80mph in their life and if you take them to 100mph then you can say that you know how to train baseball players. Also paul skenes is going to get injured either nexto or the year after next year. Because his body is not ready for all the stress of pitching a full season. Because he has never prepared to throw that many throws. He has never done bullpens of 150-200 pitches in the offseason. He only throws 100 pitches in the game. That means he never train for throwing 100 pitches.

Your so cool. Getting a feel for something in your pre-swing bat tilts? Too bad the feel has to come out with a bias towards pull side power though. Why did Freeman say he got a light bulb moment when Chipper’s concept of the hands moving directly up the inner line of the batters box finally clicked for him. Both of them got real oppo power but the advice seems counter intuitive. Most mortals would just roll it over trying that. Is it Freeman’s vertical looking bat plane? Nah, Chipper didn’t need that, his bat leveled out. Obviously it’s the lag, but when you try more lag you roll it over right? And what is with Mattingly’s downward axe hack practice swing? (And Jeter) isn’t that just plain weird? Arod feels a swing down and Bonds agrees - did they learn that from Schmidt? I don’t know but they certainly could have.
