It's actually worse than it first appears. It hasn't been brought up since season 1 but Bell is immune to charm and brainwashing magic and spells. Like not resistant but immune, so he can't be forced to do anything mentally, but this also means that he's alone if everyone around him are charmed. His skill Realis Phrase is that powerful but he likely doesn't even understand it himself, to him its just normal but for other people they are powerless before Gods, like others literally can't lie to Gods.

Basically you were correct, the type of goodbye they did unconsciously is the "long" goodbye sayonora rather than the casual goodbye of "Ja ne". I actually loved how the dub handled it with the intonation of their goodbyes.

The exposition from episode 1 about what Chi does mentions not getting hurt or sick, so its easy to imagine psychic powers are gnarly on defense. Also you have a really good grasp on regular grannies personality. Though they call themselves grandma and granddaughter she raised Momo since she was a little girl. For all intents and purposes Momo is HER daughter, especially after losing her own children. She's prickly because Momo calling her a "fake" medium really did hurt her.
