The Blue Sky Bee Supply Road Trip
It was about time for a road trip to purchase some needed supplies for my honey business. I took a three hour drive one way to Ravenna Ohio to pick up my order from Blue Sky Bee Supply. Shipping freight on my order was outrageous and the fuel was a lot cheaper. Definitely a worthwhile trip for me today.

Working Smarter, Not Harder in 2023

It's about time that I dusted off my camera's and film so new content. In this video, I give an update on my apiary and discuss a few modifications that I have started in 2023. More to come later! Disclaimer: filmed with my iPhone near some agitated bees and prior to a rain storm. Alot of bee buzzing and wind noise. Hope to use my nicer camera and Rode microphone to correct alot of that in the ...

Yard Sale Honey

In this video, I give tips on what has been a honey selling money maker. I also give information on how I sell my products. I know my pricing may be lower or higher than yours, but I am comfortable with my pricing and if it moves the product, it works for me. This is my side business and not my main source of income. These are just tips which you can utilize to help sell and market your honey a...
GardStar 40% EC - SHB Insecticide- for Honeybee Apiaries
Просмотров 4102 года назад
Over 50 plus small hive beetles in one hive that was overwintered. Thats too many for my liking, especially here in West Virginia. So after smashing, trapping, and hopefully fully eradicating them from Hive 21, I have decided that my apiary needs a treatment to remove them from the 6 Acre Farmstead. So I am planning to use Gardstar 40% to treat outside the hives and complete a ground treatment ...
March 16th First 2022 Inspection- SHB Problem !!
Просмотров 2432 года назад
I finally got to get into my hives for the 2022 beekeeping season. I could have gotten into them sooner but I try to be a good beekeeper and I only get into them when I feel I wouldn't be a hinderance to the colony. Well I got to experience something I have never dealt with before and in this video, I show you what is happening with Hive 21 and start my gameplan to correct the issue found. Good...

02/16/22 Hive checks and Slow Mo Pollen Feeding
Просмотров 2202 года назад
A quick in and out in the apiary. Added some sugar to the top insurance feeders using my dehydrated sugar trick. Also gave the bees a protein boost and set out about 3/4 pound of Ultrabee Pollen substitute in my DIY pollen feeder (check out that video). Also its pretty cool watching the bees in slow motion so a portion of that is here too. If you want to check out my friend Milnes' Twitch strea...
February 2, 2022 Hive Checks- 100% ALIVE!!
Просмотров 6902 года назад
Well you can't do much during the winter with your bees. But when the weather gets warm enough, I can check and see if they are alive and if they need additional insurance feed to make it through winter. In this video, I pop the lid on all of my colonies and see how they are doing. If you can tell by the title, all of my colonies are alive. Well all of them are alive as of February 2, 2022.
Honeybee Sugar cake For Mid-winter Needs
Просмотров 1572 года назад
Now that you are mid winter and have used the insurance board / candy board feeding, you may have noticed during your minor inspections that the colonies have eaten a portion of the candy. What if your colony has eaten more than half of it? How do you augment it? A colony without enough feed will starve and die. In this video, I have found a way to make a solid sugar cake quickly and add it to ...
A Double Swarm and Hive Reintroduction
Просмотров 2583 года назад
Well what a busy day I had. Glad I took the day off from work because if I didn't, I would have lost a few swarms that day. In this video, I tell you about my double swarm capture and also how to rehive one of them back to its original colony. Also for. those. who may ask, in the swarm capture boxes I used starter strip frames. The bees are attached to those frames in the interim and my plan is...

Transport Bags and a Nuc Box Repair
Просмотров 2993 года назад
I found another money saving tip for those beekeepers who buy Nucs in the Spring. A little extra insurance in transporting your nucs, especially if you only have a car or SUV to transport them in. Disclaimer, I have not personally tried this bag out in transporting bees but in all actually I feel it should work out well. If your successful in finding these bags, I hope they work well for you. Starting on the Left Foot

I finally got into my colonies, Day 1 of 2021
Просмотров 5203 года назад
The weather finally cooperated and my 2021 beekeeping season has begun. Day one brought some needed hive chores for me in anticipation of tearing further into my colonies and preparing a plan of attack for the Spring season. This is just some basic housekeeping touching base on a few topics from 2020.

Snelgrove- Frame Search for Queen Cells
I don't know why we don't call these a tall single.
Um um um um 😂🤣
👍👌
Brilliant tip, thank you
West Virginia videos are hard to find. Thanks! New beekeeper here and its helpful to watch videos from my area.
I have your three parts multiple times! This is very good. The only thing I don't get on the base is why did you decide on one inch thickness when the standard bee hive opening is 3/4 inch and all the wood comes in 3/4? I don't get that. Thanks for the very good work
Do you happen to have the part number for the thermostat? The thermostat on the one I have is burnt and cracked. I can't read the part number if it has one printed on it.
Yes, the Australians use it for swarm lure. They call it Slum Gum.
Great topic. Wish you would think a bit more about What your saying and explain it better. Appreciate the effort though, just hard to follow your train of thought sometimes.
Glad i saw this video and read the comments.... building several 2 frame mini nics next week...lots if good idead but im just going to leave the back open like the front entrance abd use boardman feeders...will cut a piece of wood to use as entrance blocker when feeder isnt in use...thanks for the idea...cost nothing really if you are building the nucs this way...again thanks for your ideas.
Cook trick!
your wife knows you’re in her kitchen making a mess?
Thanks for the informative video. And what I liked about yours is you didn't waste a lot of time like most showing how to cut the boards. Most people know how to cut boards. LoL
Nice! This is more practical than using a car battery 😅
I cut a hole in the lid of mine that jar lid fits in and feed from the top
Make a small hole at the back and install it
Hy good morning sir I am interested come israyel I am from india Good knowledge in bee farming
Very nicely done. Thank you!
Excellent video and I love the Snelgrove idea. Seems very useful for lots of things. I'm wondering if you can share the thickness of the board where the screen part is? How much distance do the bees need to be apart by to prevent spreading phermone? Great idea to create a space for the swarm cells too. Thanks for the inof and keep the videos coming.
I used 1/2 inch plywood
Thank you!
Excellent video with explanations for each step.
I've tried this and it compresses way too easy and is cumbersome.
Thanks for the excellent description and keeping it simple. I'll build mine this weekend for this year's harvest.
How did it end up working?
Great tip. Worked great. Thanks Chris
Is there any reason for using less thicker pvc pipe? What about using a 90 degree on the end so water will not enter?
Best video I’ve seen on this topic!
WAY Too much time
1950jpk - that was a cold, cold comment.
Just came across this video. I have another method of creating holes in jar feeder lids. I take a clean framing nail, cut off the head, sharpen the point, then chuck it up in my drill-press. Set the depth stop and table for the right/consistent puncture depth/size. I can punch a lid with the necessary number of holes in about 20 seconds. Easy on the hands/fingers.
Will that salt eventually effect your honey in anyway? Sounds like a great idea ken
Lol. Found them. New to navigating RUclips.
Check out my playlist "DIY Bee Builds". I have other items that I have built for the hives and the measurements for them too. I actually watched the 10 frame base video to get my measurements because I had to build some new equipment. Thanks for watching.
I stumbled upon your site while looking for bee base designs. Just what I’ve been looking for. Great content. You indicated in the video that you posted all the measurements for this 10 frame base but I can’t seem to find them. Keep up the good work.
Is this method used to merge two strong hives? then remove one of his Queens, to get more honey?
Initially it is to modify a strong colony during the nectar flow to hopefully prevent it from swarming and still bring in a honey harvest. The bonus is that you create a new queen from that hives genetics and didn't have to graft or buy one. You can then make a split off this top colony and then reintroduce the bees together to maintain a strong colony. If the queen in the bottom is a heavy layer, you may have to snelgrove this hive more than once during swarm season.
This is the greatest video I have ever seen
I agree this video is absolutely amazing everyone should watch this
It will not be long the bees will be kicking off going crazy. Best of luck and God Bless
Does the color of the felt matter?
no it does not. It is just a means for the honey robber spray to adhere to.
Where do you find half gallon small mouth jars
A few different places. I found them on Facebook marketplace listings, yard sales and the best bet is asking some of the older folks. Ask around and have them check their cellars. They probably aren't any good for canning purposes but will work for this.
hi there. quick question. at the end of the video you said you could get the materials out of 1 1x6x8 did you mean to say 1x4x8 or did you mean 1x6?
Nevermind I think - i see why a 1x6 probably makes more sense. less waste
would you happen to have measurements for an 8 frame instead?

@@6acrefarmstead224 thanks!! good work here.
Great video. Interested in the queen castle. What food resources do you have on the frame to start?
You pull frames from hive. They should have at least some pollen and honey on frames. I moved away from the queen castle and utilized stand alone 2 frame hives. I have. videos on those too.
@@6acrefarmstead224 Could you please send the link? Thanks.

baking parchment also works and is easier

I believe S&T Bees has closed up their business. They are now known as Honey & Drone and they sell their homemade products at WV fairs and festivals. Check them out on Facebook if you have an account.

This is interesting and this came up on my for you page, I’m like 300 miles away in Indiana
Was wondering you leave mouse guards on all the time
Year round, no. I actually haven't had them on my main apiary in a few years. When I had my outyards in fields is when I put them on in the fall and removed in the spring.
Can I use the white foam ?
You can. Its just air trapped in honey. If you are. selling your product, your customer may not like it and be off-put by it. If you remove it prior to bottling, it will produce a cleaner product for sale.
@@6acrefarmstead224 well explained 👏....Good thing I saved it...I'll upcycle and use in my #HoneySoap :-)
We do taste testing too and that seals the deal for quite a few sales. Craft sticks or spoons work the best from the dollar store. Most people are used to buying store honey and as soon as we give them a taste their eyes roll and they must buy the honey at that point. We charge a bit more for honey up our way but I think it all depends on what local honey is going for in your area. Business cards are a must and we have been adding banners so there is no mistaking we are selling honey :) - Most people that buy from us pay with cash but we have lost a sale or 2 for not being able to take credit cards. I keep forgetting to bring my square device with me. I can take Paypal and Venmo but thats alien to some people lol.
