What a shame that Lionel Barrymore was not physically able to make this role into the movie. He suggested and relinquished the role to Reginald Owen.

4 commercials in the first 20 minutes. I was going to share this with my hubby, but maybe I won't. I'll give it a bit longer. Sometimes the commercials die down after a time. If not, it'll be a thumbs down and switch to something else. Otherwise, it's wonderful listening!

But Lionel Barrymore as Scrooge is the cherry on top. Unfortunately his health issues prevented him from the movie role. He suggested and relinquished the role to Reginald Owen. To me, my favorite are with Alistair Simm, Seymour Hicks and Reginald Owen. For a western flare, Jack Palance as a saloon owner that cheats playing cards offers a different outlook.

I remember my dad listening to this when I was a kid. I miss those good old days! My dad has been gone for 20 years. My parents were old enough to be my grandparents so they remembered the old time radio days. I don’t watch movies of A Christmas Carol. I only like to listen to this. It reminds me of my childhood and I like using my imagination for the pictures in my mind on this one.

I'll never forget the time that I hadn't turned off the pole light that had lit the backside of the house where you could park, a 100 watt light bulb, I might add. I was into OTR at that time, and I would listen and record it from the radio.(early2000s) My mom, coming from the depression era, was rather tight with her money. When she gave me the riot act for forgetting to turn off the pole light, I had played her that one little sniplet where Orson Wells states; "DARKNESS IS CHEAP, AND SCROOGE LIKES IT." The way Orson had said it so dramatically blunt, I remember it kind of hit her. On other words, It had took the wind from her sails, sort of speaking. I'll never forget that moment.Sorry Mom.
