Raiders vs Vikings 1996
When football was played the way it was meant to be.....man they really beat up Bart Starr
Best defense ever to set foot in the NFL
For my money this is the greatest defense in NFL history I know they lost those four super bowls but that's a luck of the draw thing Go back and look at the numbers from 68 to 78 who would you think was better the steel curtain or the purple gang it's the purple gang by a wide margin statistically they were just the most dominant defense you could ever see
My Dad roomed with Lonnie Warrick at UT. He's the reason I've been a Vikings fan...
2:38:07 Nothing better than a good turducken
My Vikes 💔 Got absolutely RAN OVER in the last 3 Super Bowls!
@ 24:16
They could be the greatest team that ever took the field love my Minnesota Vikings, this is coming from a guy 61 years old live my whole life in Ohio die hard Viking fan believe it or not there's a lot of us, they just couldn't win the big one, I'm not superstitious sometimes I wonder if they are cursed.
This video excited me. Viking fan since 1976 thanks for these players
@ jon do you have 1993 week10 san Diego chargers at Minnesota Vikings game by chance game list
No I don't unfortunately. I can ask some of the people I subscribe too
This is fantastic editing. Well done!
The best football video....EVER. Niners fan.
I was at this game with my bro and my dad...got to witness two greats on the field before they became legends (Aaron Rodgers & Adrian Peterson)!
wow daunte really did not move his feet in the pocket whatsoever. i can see why he fell off so hard when he lost his lil bit of burst he had
I wish I had 1989 week2 new Orleans saints at green bay packers 1989 week12 Minnesota Vikings at green bay packers 1989 week 9 Chicago bears at green bay packers 1989 week8 Detroit lions at green bay packers 1988 week7 green bay packers at Minnesota Vikings 1988 week 15 Minnesota Vikings at green bay packers am sorry if it to much RUclips channel

I think Steve Young get traded to the to the Niners that season.
This was Bill Walsh's first game as coach of the Niners, no one knows what would happen a couple of years later.
This defensive line was featured as a "Jeopardy!" clue.
My dad always talked about the purple people eaters so I decided to do a search and stumbled on this gem. Judging only on these brief highlights I have to say this vikings defense is on par or slightly better than the 1980 Oakland Raiders defense (which is one of the most underrated ever). If only they had an offense to go with this amazing defense. The 1985 bears would have this defense beat in my opinion...The bears defense that year was rediculous
They were this good for ten years...not just one.
@@dicer666 Proof that the best offense isnt a good defense
Thx for posting! Remember this well..14 in MI, back when it was something special to actually watch a Viking game on TV!
I see in the record books that they gave Rashad credit for his 4th TD even though you can clearly see in this video that he fumbled at the one.
Technically that touchdown shouldn't have counted, as per the brand-spanking-new rules it should've been down at the one-foot line or so where Rashad fumbled. But in fairness, Minnesota had two timeouts left and Rick Danmeier instead of poor beleaguered Fred Cox, so the final would've very likely been 24-22 instead of 28-22. But I guess we'll never know for sure...
Never saw this game due to the fact it was blacked out in Minneapolis/St Paul due to it not selling out. And that was rare especially in the Met Stadium era as the Met sat only a bit over 48K for football. Part of the reason for the blackout was due the Vikings having a terrible preseason in 1979 losing all four games and only scoring 19 points in four games.
My God the referees in this game were bad.
Makes me appreciate my 'Purple People Eaters' autographed Viking helmet all the more.
This was very well done... Outstanding work putting all of this video together.. And this is coming from a Cowboys fan.. but grew up in the 1970's, watching great defenses like the Purple People eaters, the Steele Curtain, the Orange Crush the Doomsday Defense and many more... Great Job 👍
Det started 0-5 and this was the 5th game
I've been watching football for almost 70 years and I've never seen a major talent like Herschel Walker misused like this. This was the ONLY time in his NFL career he was allowed to run out of the I-formation...the formation that virtually all great RB's prefer. Bronco Nagurski Marion Motley Eric Dickerson Jim Brown O.J. And, tons of others, ran out of the I cuz it allowed the play to develop, they could see better and they could make adjustments. It's a crime, really. Almost a crime the way they used him. The coach, Jerry Burns, actually said "we didn't bring Herschel here to change the way we do things." Unbelievable! He traded 6 starters, 3 first round picks, 3 second round picks and 3 third round picks but reduce the effectiveness of a great back by neutralizing his vision, speed and power? The equivalent would be to call all plays from the sideline for Peyton Manning and not allow any audibles or put Jim Brown in 4 WR sets or to not allow John Elway to pass more than 5 times game. Fact is, If Herschel would have been more of a prima Donna loudmouth asshole type and complained to media...went on the Tonight Show demanding a trade or refusing to report to camp + dividing the team... His whole career would have been different. Under a coach with a brain [Parcels, Joe Gibbs, etc.], he would have led the league in rushing and had a HOF career. He was too quiet, too humble, too good. Just goes to show you being nice in this world don't cut it. Elway refused to play for the Colts. Manning refused to play for them either. Bo refused to play for Tampa bay. Herschel should have refused to play for them or forced them to put it in his contract as a condition of his trade.

@ 24:27 that's how you rap up old Walter, but to Walter's credit he rushed for an NFL single game record 275 yds against the Purple Gang, unbelievable when I saw it on the sports news break.
I'm a vikings fan since 68. I watched every play of that game. I can't remember if the bears won 10-7 or 17- 14 I think they won by 3 points after Walter ran for all those yards.
@22:10-22:18, Those linebackers were deadly headhunters and menacing.
@18:50 Carl Eller was really that mean. You did not want him to play mad, he could be unstoppable and break a game wide open by creating a turnover separating the player from the ball.
Jim Marshall is playing in his 200th straight games, that sent chills down my spine, why he's not in the HOF? There should be a trophy named after him, True Iron Man.
I was at that game and man I was so pissed off and Brett Favre cost us the game
Cardinals @ Vikings 1996 Week 14? 🤔🤔🤔

Wow, Tim Ryan and Johnny Morris doing the game? Big shocker:)
And so starts the dominance of the Dallas Cowboys.
Not in 1989 , not yet
Do you have 12/2/1990 SNF Packers at Vikings?
This game is long gone
Was a Ram fan and they broke my heart a few times. Much respect to the bad ass Vikings!
I saw Lawrence McCutheon, the great Ram's runningback do his damnedness running to beat the Purple Gang and it just didn't happen. The Rams/Vikings were a sit down and watch game, without a doubt. Two great defenses, great offenses, just a great game.
Thank you for doing this. These guys were my childhood heroes and the highlight of my week.
Fran Tarkenton retired after the 1978 season, this is Kramer's team now.
Cool, Joe Montana's first time on field in NFL regular season game to hold on FGA. at 23:26.
First two TD passes by Kramer where thrown just before the defender blitzing was ready to hit him.
Bill Walsh NFL Head Coaching Debut
I am not sure what was going through my head when I posted last, I can be an idiot.
Jeff George, such a beautiful ball
