The thing about real intelligent people is you will intone it naturally by the way they interact, the things they have to say, and overly verbose pontificating about how fucking important it is to be very smart is not a thing a person of real intelligence would ever do. Memorization and quotation have absolutely fuck all to do with intelligence and one of the things you'll find about the most intelligent of people is they are highly empathetic. It is a base and primal instinct to want to verbally abuse others by confusing them when they can't understand (unless they were already being rude, then it's deserved).

It's a shame to see people absolutely railing Will Self in the comments. He is very clearly playing a character here and being deliberately mean and condescending to Karl for the benefit of the show. Someone's smartened him up before recording and told him "everyone has been really sweet, so far. We need you to 'ham it up' a bit" and thus he is. Watch his performances on Shooting Stars, Have I Got News For You etc. He's a very astute intellectual and also a decent comedian. The part where he claimed to be measuring the the size of a part of Karl's brain with a random stone ball and then "blocking his thoughts" by putting it on his head was clearly a comedy bit. It was likely referencing the many, many "look at his perfectly round, bald Manc head" digs from the XFM days. Anyway... I'm honestly baffled that people didn't seem to pick up on the fact Will was taking the mick.

I love Karls's work with Ricky and Steve, but I never did the find the humor in putting Karl down. I think he has very inquisitive mind, which is a sign of intellect. Maybe if his education was made for him in mind he would be "smarter".

I think there is enough scientific evidence to suggest the smarter you are the less happy you are. The more you know about the world the more you realize how bad things are. The worst thinkers I know are deeply religious and never read the news or any book including the Bible, but they have a sense that God is just going to take care of everything. They're generally happy people. I just don't know how to get there myself. I have no belief in God and I can't help but think about what's going on in the world. Even when I try to do news blackouts I still somehow find out about what's going on. I'd say I waffle between content and fucking miserable
