I‘m having the same trouble finding more music in this style… it‘s definitely lounge jazz with fusion elements, so that means there‘s outside playing and also bossa nova flavours in there. There is though also a strong disco influence which I love and a space funk direction with futuristic synths and delays. To add to all that mix is a clear love of western, read American big bands. What makes me so happy to have found his music is the obvious calibre of these recordings which you can search years trying to find: astonishing studio production values, his albums are so well recorded and the musicians and their instruments of such high quality, that his music adds up to a significant work. His exquisite sense of melody means most of these tracks are classics, even though they’re unknown.

Feeling good, maybe steal a rare artifact on the way home idk.

From what I talked with jazz musicians and jazz enthusiasts - Japanese jazz is not highly regarded, because it's bland, generic, and often, uninspired. There sure are better composers or performers, but that scene is weak compared to, for example, Polish one. Obviously there are people like Hiromi, but that kind of hard working talented musician can happen everywhere, and it's not a norm, like in USA. But there also people like Yoko Kanno, who are just borrowing their best beats from other. Kanno does change some, enough to not be direct copyright infringement, but she got only this famous thanks to being a member of Tetsu100% and doing a lot of anime music, and later, game music, with very variable, and uneven quality. Some more well known jazz-romancing bands are Soil & Pimp and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, but again, those are mostly bossa, ska, samba, latin, cool-jazz. There's obviously well known Tokyo New City Orchestra, Sadao Watanabe, Masabumi Kikuchi, Ryo Fukui or true legend, Toshiko Akiyoshi. Knowing these well established musicians, and just listening to a few of their maybe not even albums, but compositions, there's obvious gap between them, and Yuji Ohno, or other pop-culture, anime, game ost composers. Just pointing the obvious for people who are looking for something really "jazz-y" ;) And, no to mention, "Café Relaxin' Lupin" album is mostly bossanova with some jazz. Nothing wrong with it, because I do personally like Ohno's works, as it's easy to listen music with well defined mood and feel (still, it's very average jazz in general).
