Doesn't make sense with the movie and nobody pays attention. How do they know who's making the noise and not attack one another or to go to that noise when one is attacking or chasing a person? I always try to think they have a telekinesis or something where they can sense each other presence or clones. Still doesn't explain why they have to open up their heads to hear when if they have telekinesis of that power to sense their own means they don't needs ears or mouths...

In the first movie a DA fully submerges itself in (shallow) water with absolutely no negative effects. In the second movie DA willingly jumps into deep water to try and kill Emmett and drowns. In the third movie every DA avoids the river like they know the danger ahead of time.
