N Scale Arnold 2-8-2 with DCC, Sound and Smoke Generator
Просмотров 34 тыс.10 лет назад
Had this N scale Arnold 2-8-2 and decided to put a Digitrax SDN144PS sound decoder into the tender. Also changed the lights to LED and swapped out the motor for a newer Atlas skewed motor.
Your headline is my new Top Gun bar scene pickup line
Where did u find youre smoke unit ?
It came with that model from Arnold.
I wonder if adding black food coloring would transfer over into the vapor? That would look EPIC.
Nicely done Mike! I'm happy to see you get that baby back up.
Right on Mikey… he likes it!😂
Awesome Mikey !!! Great job !!
There, 300 likes 🙂 Nice work, beautiful locomotive. 💯
DUDE!, just found this video and gotta have one for a desert diorama. Do sell this set up ?
The engine comes from the factory with the smoke unit installed. I found mine on eBay used, don't know if Arnold still sells them or not. I installed the DCC unit myself.
Hi. I have this smoke unit in my 2-8-4 bachmann that I upgraded to DCC. I use a DN163PS as decoder on it with my smoke unit on the aux 1. The only problem I have is number of unused aux wires
Thats friggin awesome
Wich smoker unit do you have in that locomotive?
Hi How many volt is the output for the smoke generator Because I use esu lock pilot and I think the smoke generator is burned now I scale the Voltage is 17volts And what kind of control you use
Hi, the smoke generator was factory installed on the locomotive when I picked it up. It is not controlled by the DCC. and is directly connected to and powere by track voltage. I can't remember the model but I used an MRC DCC unit. These locomotives with the smoke unit can still be found on ebay.
Hi Thanks for your answer Mine has the smoke unit but I burn it because my transfomer was 18 v How many volts is your track power?
I have dc analog layout, can i run this dcc unit on my layout ?
DCC fitted models will run on analogue, however may be a little slower to respond. The opposite is not true, however, and we do not recommend running analogue locomotives on a digital layout as this can cause internal damage to your locomotive.
Very nice I want to ask you which brand is the smoke generator you use for it
Could you make a video on how you did this? Great work, that's the best looking smoke i've seen in any scale, bar the real ones!
Nice video. What is the minimum required curved track radius for this locomotive ? Would the Kato 3/4"- 45 track work ? Thanks
Most of the Arnold Rapido engines I have had have been able to turn on 6", however I added a cabin diaphragm to one of my steamers so it was limited to 9 and 3/4inches. They don't look pretty when they do it but they can do it.
Ibertrain made one also,Spanish manufacturer. There are 4 manufacturers that made live smoke locos.Instead of chopping it up with an atlas motor, you could of sent it in and they would be happy to repair. It has almost no value now,I still send all of mine in to this day for any minor or major repairs.I have 29 of these locos, and they are the only locos I collect and run.
You ruined it
I like this train
Pretty cool👍👍👍😎😎😎
nice engine, and great smoke output!
Did this start as a vintage Arnold or is this a new Arnold?
AMAZING!
That was great! Mr. B.
Nice
Very nice!
she got her load of heroine ! :D
That is some steam
What is your question?
I have a question I bought an n scale Arnold br41 and I don't what smoke fluid to use and where to buy it
You can get it on ebay. Type "Model train smoke fluid" in search and you will see lots to choose form. Can't really recommend any particular brand, but look for one with a syringe or a tiny dropper.
@@stevelee2067 how'a did you install this smoke unit and if you bought the smoke unit comercally, where can I buy one because I would like to get one for a Kato FEF-3
I have questions can you reply?
What KATO track do you have in the curves in this video? I have this train but my radius is to small..
I believe it is the 11 inch radius.
thanks! I just ordered them, then I'll finally be able to use my 2-8-2
wery nice,superrrrrr
have you ever considered doing an instructional video? I'd be VERY interested in learning how to make one of these for my own
+Vincent Buccigrossi sorry Vincent, I no longer have this engine anymore. The DCC install was like any other install, the smoking unit was already installed into the engine from the factory. You can find these engines on ebay every now and then.
That's a lot of smoke for a tiny smoke unit. Nice work.
The motor replacement was anything but a drop in. The motor I used was an ATLAS N U25B SCALE SPEED MOTOR from ebay. It had dual flywheels. I had to remove one of the flywheels from the shaft and cut the other one off since there was no room. I used a couple of small square pieces of 1/64th of an inch thick plywood as shims on both side of the motor and the motor mount on the frame. The plywood fit perfectly and acted not only as sound insulators but also electrically isolated the motor from the frame which is what you want in a DCC setup. Hope this helps.
Great work and video presentation. The audio portion mentioned an Atlas skew wound motor as a replacement for the original Arnold Rapido motor. Can you provide more info on an atlas part number or model and where the motor be obtained.
I just got a N loco with a smoke generator. Where do I get the fluid to get it to smoke?
You can buy it from any model train store, online or ebay. Any smoke fluid will work there are no smoke fluids made for a specific scale. Some will come with a syringe or a built in needle tip and that is useful for an N scale.
Simply amazing work! Great job!! That's an amazing engine!!
Thanks for sharing. I have an old Arnold steam locomotive at the shop now for simple dcc decoder install for motor and lights. Eager to get it on my test track. I had a Rowa 2-8-8-2 n-scale with a smoke unit; was very nice until person who was to repair it destroyed it.
This is one of two N scale manufacturers that produced N scale models with smoke generators, the other was Rowa. The Rowa models have plastic shells, the Arnolds were all metal. Both of the manufacturers no longer produce these N scale smokers. You can still find them of course on eBay like I did.
What kind of smoke generator did you use? And how in the world did you fit it in there?
Thanks for the comments. Wish I had the original soundtrack of the engine. The generic steam sound is better than nothing.
ho great i want one too hehehe badly i'm extremly bad and can not doing that ;) my dream a steam engine with sound and smoke generator on the N scale (at least sound is already a lt of work and great)
Amazing!
